The 'industrial action' taken by the Malta Union of Nurses and Midwives under its president, Paul Pace, is yet another instance of the incompatibility of health care workers and trade unions. The vicious, asinine action taken against a single cancer patient at Boffa Hospital exemplifies the harm that can be inflicted on anyone at the diktat of one or two individuals who manage to gain control of a group of highly professional health care workers organised in a trade union. Trade unions and industrial action are more in keeping with factory floors and industrial sites than with hospital wards.
