Improvement registered in Karl Chircop's condition
Labour MP Karl Chircop's condition has taken a turn for the better, his wife, Adriana, told The Times yesterday.
"He is definitely improving," Mrs Chircop said when contacted last night. The 43-year-old parliamentarian fell into a deep coma after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage on August 3 while cleaning the wheels of his car.
Mrs Chircop said the situation was changing, adding that she was very happy about the improvements.
Labour MP Michael Farrugia, also a doctor, said an improvement has been registered in Dr Chircop's condition but he still needs a lot of prayers and care.
In a comment posted on timesofmalta.com last weekend, Mrs Chircop said: "I thank those supporting and praying for Karl because, yes, your prayers are being heard."
She described every day as "a miracle".
The news of Dr Chircop's slight improvement was received with numerous messages of support which poured in on this paper's website.
A reader even suggested saying a prayer for him at 3 p.m. yesterday, a thought that was picked up by others who pledged to do the same thing.

@Sharon Micallef
I completely agree with you that this is not the place and time for a discussion.
However, I felt that DR. Ahmed’s statement: ‘There is no god but Allah who hears your prayers’ merited an answer which I am sure he appreciates respects and understands.
Being open about one’s faith and trying to explain its various dimensions in friendly terms is not ‘religious fanaticism’ as you implied.
Your implication places Dr. Ahmed’s statement in the same boat.
Moreover, ‘religious fanaticism’ has NO PLACE anywhere and anytime.
My comment Sharon showed no lack of tolerance and respect.
Actually, it highlighted them.

@Carl Pol
You argued:
‘If you recover it was through prayers! And the scientists and medical staff never get any merits for their professionalism’.
Prayer is a deep spiritual contact with the Lord.
Our prayer should be to pray the Lord to open our eyes of faith and accept whatever comes along in life in faith, hope and love: a tall order – that is why we should pray for it.
Admittedly, when I was much younger, there were times when my arguments ran parallel to yours especially after my father passed away (due to cancer) when I was just ten years old. However, as I grew up, through the grace of God I realized that my arguments were unfounded.
You ‘attribute medical progress to scientific research.’
I agree with you.
However, the gifts of intelligence and dedication of scientists to carry out scientific research come from God.
Thanks to the Lord for providing us with such dedicated persons!
It is up to us to thank God and these dedicated persons; a duty which we sometimes neglect especially when things turn out well!
A old Russian saying runs:’ in dire extremity, man remembers his God.’
God Bless Carl Pol

This is not the place for religious fanaticism. Dr. Ahmed bin Al Zufi meant well and expressed his wishes according to his beliefs. Let’s learn to be tolerant and respect differences, and in this spirit wish Dr. Chircop a full recovery, whichever religion one may believe in!

@Dr Ahmed bin al Zufi MD
Thanks for your prayers for Dr. Chircop.
You argued: ‘There is no god but Allah who hears your prayers’.
While we are ALL free because God gave us the freedom to act and to think, we cannot:
i. abuse freedom by suffocating the freedom of thought of others,
ii. fall into the trap of the dictatorship of relativism where all positions are considered
equally valid.
Some important points:
i. We are not ‘slaves of Allah’ but ‘sons in the Son’ of the living God.
ii. The Catholic Faith, tells us more about God through Revelation by His Divine Son Jesus,
and the grace of the Holy Spirit.
iii. We do not know everything about God because God is infinite in all dimensions.
As finite beings, we cannot understand the infinite.
However, as created reasonable beings, we are able to reasonably reason towards
Faith; Faith and Reason being complementary to each other.
iv. Through the gift of Faith by the Spirit we are assured about the existence of our loving
God who Has (out of his infinite love towards ALL humanity) revealed Himself through
the Incarnation of His DIVINE SON JESUS.
Warmest regards and blessings.

A reader yesterday suggested we all pray for Dr. Karl Chircop at 3pm so I got on my mobile and forwarded this message to all my friends so together we will unite and pray but we must keep on praying so that Dr. Chircop will get better and better. Our Holy Virgin is hearing our prayers, so let us all unite and pray because Dr. Chricop is far too precious to all of us. Adriana and family, you are not alone, our prayers are with you all.

Good to see someone like Dr Ahmed showing his support here.
I am agnostic, but it is still nice to see people of faith meaning well.
Thanks Dr. Ahmed. I can assure you that Dr Karl is a person who deserves your, and everyones support.

I hope and wish Dr chircop comes back to a decent life with his beloved ones. A true gentleman I hear. Nevertheless I sometimes am spellbound by all this talk of prayers. I understand that God and prayers are a part of the heritage of this country but I attribute medical progress to scientific research. I am sure that our competent medical expertise will do all they can as they always do. I do not share the believers' attitude i.e if you succumb to a trauma they say God found a better place for you. If you recover it was through prayers! And the scientists and medical staff never get any merits for their professionalism. Get well soon Karl.

There is no god but Allah who hears your prayers. May Allah watch over your brother and grant him peace.
