Lampard: England midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea, the Premier League club said yesterday. The deal means Lampard, 30, remains at Stamford Bridge under new coach Luiz Felipe Scolari following several months of stalled talks and speculation of a move to Inter.

Terry: Chelsea captain John Terry said he wanted to fulfil every player's boyhood dream and skipper England again. "Of course I want the captaincy. I would be lying if I said I didn't. I've been awfully lucky to get the armband in the past and that's something that will never leave me," Terry, who captained England under ex-coach Steve McLaren, told reporters.

Barton: Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has admitted a charge of violent conduct against former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo. Barton was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for the attack when he appeared in court last month. The 25-year-old midfielder has been granted a personal hearing before a Regulatory Commission on a date yet to be decided.

South Africa: South Africa coach Joel Santana has recalled striker Benni McCarthy to the squad for a friendly against Australia at Loftus Road in London on Tuesday. The Blackburn Rovers player, is joined by uncapped Norwich midfielder Matty Pattison and Rangers reserve Dean Furman, both born in South Africa but brought up in England.
