Obituary

AXIAQ. On August 12, at Mater Dei Hospital, CATHERINE née Mifsud, aged 81, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her daughters Josephine and her husband George Vella, Esther and her husband Charles Psaila, her son Charles and his wife Tessie née Debattista, her grandchildren Maria and fiancé Dex, Daniel, Ian, Audrey and husband Sandro Gatt and Keith, her great-grandchildren Krista and Andrew, her brother in law Francis Axiaq, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 3 p.m. for Żabbar parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment at Żabbar cemetery. The family would like to thank the medical, nursing and all staff at medical ward 6 at Mater Dei Hospital for their professionalism and dedication. Lord grant her eternal rest.

GRECH. On August 13, in Canberra, Australia, MYRA, aged 79, sister of the late Mgr Maurice Grech, Tony Grech, and Sister Joan Grech. She leaves to mourn her loss her brother Leslie and his wife Mafine, her nieces and nephews, Dorothy, David, Chris, Joyoti and Gitali and her great-nieces and nephews, as well as her many good friends in Malta and Australia. R.I.P. Mass for the repose of her soul will be said on Monday, August 18 at 7 p.m. at St Patrick's church, Sliema.

GRECH CUMBO. On August 13, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, MELITA, widow of Joe, aged 95, passed away peacefully to meet the Risen Lord comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved children Edwin and his wife Rosa of Australia, Gladys wife of Joe Critien, Neville and his wife Francine of America, Adrian and his wife Nathalie, her sisters-in-law Lina wife of notary Pellegrini Petit and Jeanne wife of the late George Grech Cumbo, her beloved grandchildren Eugene, Craig, Karen, Charlotte, Jonathan, Candyce and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul today at 9 a.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the staff of St Joseph Ward 22 for their kind dedication. Lord grant her eternal rest.

SIROL. On August 13, at his residence in Paola, JACOB, aged 89, widower of Franca, passed away peacefully. He is mourned by his son Raniero, husband of Ġemma née Kenely, his son-in-law Nazzareno Vella, widower of Alice and his grandchildren Massimo, Edward and his girlfriend Daniela, Bruno, Rosette and her husband Etienne and his great-granddaughter Kayla, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said at Christ the King parish church, Paola, today at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.

La Bohème at the Aurora in October

The Aurora Theatre in Victoria will present Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème, on October 11 at 7.30 p.m. featuring soprano Lydia Caruana.

It will be directed by Novella Tabili and led by resident conductor Colin Attard.

Tickets, selling at €70, €60 and €45 are on sale at the theatre's booking office. A limited number of tickets will also be made available at a reduced price of €25.

Every two to three Maltese patrons holding a gold ticket will be entitled to a free car plus passengers ferry ticket also available to every three to six patrons holding a silver or bronze ticket. These arrangements apply to tickets bought before September 15.

The theatre shall also provide a shuttle service between Mġarr and Victoria before and after the opera. The service will be free but patrons are requested to book seats when buying tickets. Bookings can be made by calling 2156 2974 or 2155 9452. One can also send an e-mail to info@leone.org.mt.

Box office hours are Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to noon and 4 to 7 p.m.

Roads closed

Qrendi: Triq Is-Salvatur, Il-Kbira, Rokku Buhagiar, It-Tempesta, Massbielle, Dun P. P. Xuereb, Luigi Galea, Ġużè Cassar, Antonio Chircop and Misraħ San Mattew will be closed to traffic today between 4.30 p.m. and midnight.

Mosta: Triq Il-Kungress Ewkaristiku, Il-Kbira, Baskal Buhagiar and Il-Biċċerin and Pjazza Rotunda will be closed to traffic today between 4 p.m. and 1 a.m. Mqabba: Triq Il-Pjazza, San Bażilju, San Mikiel, Id-Disgħa T' April, Karmenu Ciantar, It-Troll, Is-Sejba, Santa Katerina, San Innocenzu, Mikelanġ Sapiano and Il-Konvoj will be closed to traffic between 7 p.m. and 1.30 a.m.

Għaxaq: Triq Bir Id-Deheb, Triq Santa Marija, Triq Il-Knisja and Pjazza San Ġorġ until Triq Santa Marija will be closed to traffic this evening between 7.30 and 11.30 p.m.

Victoria: Pjazza Tal-Katidral, It-Telgħa Tal-Belt, Pjazza Indipendenza, Triq Ir-Repubblika, Triq Sir Adrian Dinli, Pjazza Sabina and Triq Sir M. A. Refalo will be closed to traffic today from 5 a.m. onwards.

Breast cancer support group

The Breast Care Support Group has a new committee, headed by president Gertrude Abela and vice-president Doris Fenech.

The group has also changed its contact details. Its address is PO Box 24, Balzan, BZN 1000; the phone number is 9999 4666; and e-mail is . The website remains the same: bebreastaware.org.

Whoever has been directly or indirectly affected by breast cancer is asked to call the group for support and practical information.

Any volunteers who are willing to help raise breast health awareness are also encouraged to call.

Saxophone at the Waterfront

The Friday evening concert series at the Sagrestia Vault - Valletta Waterfront will be back with Saxophone Hues featuring saxophonist Joseph Vella and pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa on August 29 at 8.30 p.m.

The programme will feature mostly French compositions with two exceptions, one by the French composer Gabriel Grovlez and the other by the American Scott Joplin.

The sub-post office at Rose Bazaar, 133, Triq Santa Marija, Għaxaq will be closed between August 18-30, both days included. During this period, the public may make use of the Maltapost branch at 37, Triq San Luċjan, Żejtun.

The sub-post office at 51, Triq Ġorġ Borg Olivier, Mellieħa will be closed between August 16-23, both days included, but the Maltapost branch at 100, Triq Il-Mitħna l-Ġdida, Mellieħa will be open.
