Boy thief given last chance to reform

A 15-year-old girl was conditionally discharged for two years and her 16-year-old partner-in-crime was placed on probation for three years after admitting on Tuesday to having stolen a handbag containing over €2,000 worth of items last week.

The theft took place at Footloose Bar in Paceville last week to the detriment of Svetlana Kirillina and Irina Popova.

Before handing down judgment, Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna took into consideration the fact that the girl was only 15, that she had filed an early guilty plea, and that she had a clean police conduct sheet and thus could be treated as a first-time offender. The court heard how the boy is currently in prison after allegedly breaching the bail conditions of a previous release.

The Magistrate said he felt the boy deserved another chance to reform, but warned him this would be his last. He placed him on probation for three years.

Police Inspector Bernard Spiteri prosecuted. Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores appeared for the teenagers.
