The police has stopped processing applications for bird trapping licences, the Hunters and Trappers Federation, (FKNK) complained this morning.

FKNK secretary Lino Farrugia said the police started processing licences last week but trappers who went to apply for a licence this week were told by police officers that the Police Commissioner had ordered them to stop.

Mr Farrugia said the FKNK had not been given an official reason for the abrupt decision but it was likely that the action was taken because the government wants to stop trapping by the end of this year, in line with its agreement with the European Union.
