Air Malta flights to Brussels (KM 420/1) are being affected by the strike at the Brussels airport handling company, Aviapartner.

The strike has led several airlines to cancel or re-route flights to alternative destinations.

The industrial action started without prior notice minutes before the landing of Air Malta's flight to Brussels last Sunday.

Passengers on that flight were unable to reclaim their luggage while the luggage of the passengers on the return flight was not uplifted.

Air Malta has since distributed the luggage to its customers both in Malta and in Brussels, the national airline said.

Negotiations continued on Monday but as no solution was brokered, Air Malta operated flight (KM 420/1) to Liège Airport instead - located 90 minutes by car away from the Belgian capital.

To alleviate the inconvenience caused to customers, Air Malta provided free coach transfers to passengers together with their luggage between Liège and Brussels and vice-versa for passengers booked on KM 420/1. Air Malta will continue to operate to Liège Airport until the strike action at Brussels airport is lifted. Check-in for the Malta bound flight KM 421 is being made at Brussels airport and passengers are advised to still proceed to Brussels airport to complete their airport formalities for their return flight to Malta.

Since there may be delays on these flights, customers are advised to visit www.maltairport.com or contact flight enquiries on 5004 3333 for updated information. » See also page 18
