How does having divorce stop Malta from being a Catholic country? Will the churches all fall down? Should we send envoys to Ireland and Italy to explain that they are no longer Catholic countries? Divorce much like faith is a matter of personal choice, it is not an easy or frivolous one and is arrived at via much pain and suffering on the part of the couple concerned. Surely this is deserving of a compassionate response. The reality is that even a common murderer is treated with less disdain.

Let me ask this. Far from losing its identity as a Catholic country, is Malta not already in danger of having lost its identity as a compassionate Christian one?
