Drug trafficker caught red-handed

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after he was caught red-handed selling drugs in Fgura yesterday evening, the police said.

The arrest was made after the police monitored activity near the public garden and the bocci club in Fgura.

The man was found to be in possession of nine packets of heroin, while another 30 packets were found in his car. All were ready for sale.

Magistrate Silvio Meli is holding an inquiry.

Let us hope that all those caught dealing in any sort of illegal drugs, are NOT granted bail in the first instance and then shown no mercy whatsover, when they are finally brought to justice,

What amazes me most is how foreign students and tourists manage to locate drug suppliers within a few hours from their arrival to malta while local police do not seem to know anyone or anything. Being a small island does not seem to help. So how about employing a few foreign police officers on temporary basis?

When are we going to start imprisoning pushers, locking them up and losing the keys and demanding the money collected from the pushers to be taken away and invested in Drug Rehabilitation Centres. I am not a parent, but I do worry about other people's children who are at a very tender and impressionable age and if they do not follow what their friends are doing they will be bullied.

Vigilance should be kept up in popular areas by plain clothed police who should mix and pretend to be one of them and it is amazing what they can learn.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. THEREFORE, PLEASE PROTECT THESE KIDS WHO ARE FALLING INTO THIS TRAP AND PERHAPS WILL BE TOO LATE FOR SOME OF THEM.

Just ONE trafficker was arrested? Don't all Fgura residents know that the bandli and the bocci club are the major gathering point for buying and abusing drugs? We locals refer to that area jokingly as the 'Supermarket' for illicit substances. Why aren't more plain clothes police officers mingling there?

We, the locals, demand that the area is cleared up of this scum, and the bandli returned to its rightful patrons, namely families with young children. It's unacceptable that the single area in the whole town, where children can congregate, will be as full of illicit substances, as it is now.
