you should be ashamed of yourself! You are inviting a bunch of millionairres to take over an industry of more than 200 years old when the opportunity cost is the loss of a 1000 families from their jobs! Imagine yourself being deprived from your beloved job for the sake of millionairres! Pff how pathetic!

The responsibility should be taken by gonzi pn, after all it was his govt that made the promises, promises that are written black on white!

By leasing the dockyards for thirty years we will be denying a whole generationof Maltese the benefit and opportunity of seeing the Grand Harbour redeveloped in a way that will turn it into a gem in the mediterranean which its natural beauty merits.

I wonder who the planning geniuses and strategic thinkers within Government are who came up with this absurd solution or was it just some ministerial whim of which we get plenty although hardly any bear fruit..

Did our decision makers leaders bother to consult experts in dockland rehabilitation who through their knowhow have turned some of the most depressed harbours in Europe to become magnets of tourist and maritime related activities.

If we really still want shipyard activities we should transfer them to the free port area.

People keep arguing that the dockyards should remain dockyards no matter who takes them over.How absurd. The Grand Harbour is continuously hailed as a jewel in the Med by international entities and some people keep insisting that such an eye-sore and unhealthy business should remain where it is!! The whole harbour area should be nothing but marinas, cruise liner quays and entertainment businesses. I can guarentee that we would steal a hell of alot of berthing contracts from Monoco to say the least. More and more millionaires are coming here ever since the Grand harbour Marina started operations in Birgu and this is a clear signal of what should be done. The Grand harbour should definitely not be marred by such heavy industry.It should be shifted elsewhere no matter if the industry is needed or not or even if the priority is to save the jobs of those who work there. Malta should be a playground for the rich and famous and we are wasting chances to drag them in by being so blind to the obvious .

Now that the government just announced the phase where interested companies shall bid for the docks, the government must suspend the early retirment schemes for a short time so that the workers can make wise decision and open them once again after the bidder is finally chosen.

As a private employee who pays huge amounts of tax and social security contributions, this piece of news makes me feel just that little bit better...
