Alternattiva applauds moves to protect Ta' Ċenċ

Alternattiva Demokratika has welcomed the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage's suggestion to schedule the entire Ta' Ċenċ area but insisted that talks need to be backed up by targeted funding.

AD Gozo spokesman Victor Galea said: "The government should put the money where it is needed: a general clean-up of these yet undiscovered archaeological sites and serious investment in culture and heritage. They should learn that Gozo needs job creation also in the sector of culture and heritage."

The Superintendence also highlighted that more archaeological remains are yet to be discovered on other sites in the Mġarr ix-Xini area.

However, AD expressed dismay about illegal dumping in the area of Ta' Lambert near the defunct heliport and questioned the motives behind it.

"Could this be an excuse to encourage further developments in the area of the unused heliport since someone would argue that the site is already in a dilapidated state?" Mr Galea queried.

Mr. Attard (on 10/8/08)
Thanks AD for raising the issue of Ta' Lambert and the illegal dumping which goes on in there.
Where are the Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) and Gozo Business Chamber (GBC)???

Are they in favour of neglecting this garigue and countryside in order to push forward an airport in this area? Could it be that this is the reason for their su\ilence on this issue?
