By his own admission, Edward Zammit (The Sunday Times, August 3) can read. He must fully understand that 'No Stopping' means just that. Mr Zammit chose to break the law and learnt a lesson. First from the warden who was doing her duty, and then when the ticket was contested.

The law is the law. 'No Stopping' signs, speed limits et al are established for a reason. One might be considered more important than others, hence the reason for a scale of fines. I agree that wardens and other law enforcement personnel do not do enough to enforce the law. That's why we hear of so many infringements - vehicles illegally parked, damage to the environment through excessive emissions and garbage, unsafe working practices resulting in serious accidents, and smoking in bars, just to mention a few.

Does one need a law enforcement officer to be educated? Good citizenship and self-discipline should suffice.

Some drivers are lucky and get away with breaking the law and become upset and hostile when they are caught.

I am not a warden, and have no relative or friend who is. But I do feel sorry for them for some of the jobs they have to do and the unreasonable people they have to face.
