Wardens have a job to do (1)
By his own admission, Edward Zammit (The Sunday Times, August 3) can read. He must fully understand that 'No Stopping' means just that. Mr Zammit chose to break the law and learnt a lesson. First from the warden who was doing her duty, and then when the ticket was contested.
The law is the law. 'No Stopping' signs, speed limits et al are established for a reason. One might be considered more important than others, hence the reason for a scale of fines. I agree that wardens and other law enforcement personnel do not do enough to enforce the law. That's why we hear of so many infringements - vehicles illegally parked, damage to the environment through excessive emissions and garbage, unsafe working practices resulting in serious accidents, and smoking in bars, just to mention a few.
Does one need a law enforcement officer to be educated? Good citizenship and self-discipline should suffice.
Some drivers are lucky and get away with breaking the law and become upset and hostile when they are caught.
I am not a warden, and have no relative or friend who is. But I do feel sorry for them for some of the jobs they have to do and the unreasonable people they have to face.

Their job is to dish out tickets to support their salaries.

Wardens seem to be getting all the flak - not that they don't deserve it sometimes. But who gives them unwanted ammunition? Who decides on so many 'Resrved' parkings? To accomodate friends? Big shots? Parking places which would serve both us common mortals and these super humans if converted to say 15 to 30 mins parking
And what about the Police? The arrogance, the impenetrable barrier. My car was towed away one evening in Valletta at 9.00pm at the end of March, and in the process my car's sump was damaged. It cost me Euros 550 to repair and naturally I claimed against the Police. I cannot find who is dealing with my file, cannot talk to the 'untouchable', and if I send a reminder I was warned that the file will probably end up at the bottom of the pile again.
