Guidance and PSD teachers were recently familiarised with the subjects taught at the Institute of Tourism Studies as part of an in-service training programme for teachers organised by the Malta Tourism Authority together with the Department for Curriculum Management.

A participant commented: "The programme enabled us to broaden our perspective with regard to the various career paths offered in the tourism industry as well as the various programmes of study the institute offers potential students."

The MTA's Industry HR development unit is responsible for the development of national human resource initiatives for the tourism industry. The MTA programme aims to encourage teachers, especially those who work directly in career guidance, to motivate school leavers to follow training programmes offered by the institute which in turn would boost the number of qualified people working in the industry.

For more information on the programme, contact the unit on tel. 2291 5122/4 or e-mail choice@visitmalta.com.
