A group of 10 youths from Sir Michelangelo Refalo Centre for Further Studies, Victoria, Gozo, recently took part in a five-day youth conference during which students from 11 different EU countries discussed the issues of work and apprenticeship, climate change and human rights.
Each subject was sub-divided in topics and discussed in workshops composed of about 10 to 15 youths each from different countries, and each group had excursions related to the various topics. Some interesting excursions included visits to a biogas plant, an Audi factory, a synagogue, a new school and the regional parliament in Stuttgart.
During the general assembly, open discussions took place in which participants could put forward ideas and proposals. Debates were often intriguing and interesting, sometimes even heated. Moreover, suggestions and main points were identified from our discussions and have been sent by the conference organisers to the European Parliament.
The evenings were dedicated to fun activities such as sports, a film at the cinema and a music concert. The conference was brought to an end with a gala dinner during which every group gave a short presentation on something typical from their country.
