An Air China flight from central Japan turned back this morning after the airline received a bomb threat in an email which also said the Beijing Olympic Games site would be attacked, Japanese police and media said.

Japanese media said the email included a threat to bring the flight to Chongqing down on the site of the Olympics in Beijing, where the opening ceremony is due to be staged later today.

Air China flight CA 406 landed safely at Central Japan International Airport around 8 a.m. (Malta time), airport police said, but could not confirm how many passengers were on the flight.

The threat caused the airline to suspend some of its flights for inspections, Kyodo News reported.
