UK teenager killed in grocery shooting

A teenager shot dead in a London grocery store appears to have been an innocent bystander hit by bullets fired from gunmen on mopeds, the police said yesterday.

Ryan Bravo, 18, from Lambeth, was killed as he entered a Costcutter shop in Camberwell on Wednesday, the 22nd teenager to die in a violent attack in the capital this year.

The Metropolitan Police said it seemed that the intended targets were two men who barged past the victim to get into the shop at the same time.

"It appears at this stage that the victim has no links to gang activity and that he was an innocent bystander - caught up in the line of fire and was not the intended target," said detective superintendent Gary Richardson.

"The victim was walking down Walworth Road with family members. As they entered Costcutter, two black men forced their way into the shop behind them as if they were trying to get away from something.

"As they did so, shots were fired. Up to five male suspects drove away on three mopeds."

A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with the attack, he added. Police appealed for witnesses.
