Russia peacekeepers in 'fierce' battle
Russian peacekeepers are waging a "fierce" battle with Georgian forces in South Ossetia and have suffered 12 dead and 150 wounded, the peacekeeping forces were quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
"Now our peacekeepers are waging a fierce battle with regular forces from the Georgian army in the southern region of Tskhinvali," a representative of the Russian force was quoted as saying by Interfax.
There were no details on the casualty figures.

This all goes to show the mishandling of American foreign policy in trying to contain Russia, with the sole reason of promolgating its interests.

That's a dangerous proposition indeed, Mr. Camilleri. Georgia is not a NATO member, although it is a close ally of the U.S. Suggesting NATO intervention against Russia is no easy task, and carries with it a ton of danger and consequences.
More likely than not, the fighting will tamper down in a few days, or few weeks at most, and both sides will recognize the status quo - Russian quasi-control over South Ossetia. I don't see this exploding into a wider regional war. The consequences are too terrible to fathom.

I agree with Mr Camilleri with the difference that NATO should invade Tbilisi and arrest for humanitarian crimes President Saakashvili. He has already butchered 1,400 civilians in an ethnic cleansing process.

While I hope the fighting stops, I think NATO should intervene and teach the Russians a lesson.
