Husband, wife, arraigned after Burmarrad incident

A woman from Burmarrad was this morning accused in court of having slightly injured her husband with a pointed instrument, while the husband was accused of having assaulted and slightly injured their son and threatened him with a screwdriver.

The incidents allegedly happened early yesterday morning in Burmarrad.

Maria Dolores Camilleri, 58, was accused of having slightly injured Guzeppi Camilleri, 60, and being in unlawful possession of a pointed instrument.

Mr Camilleri was accused of assaulting and slightly injuring his son and having threatened him with a screwdriver.

He was also accused of having caused more than €113 in damage to a motor vehicle, driving a tractor in a negligent and dangerous manner and harassing his wife such that she feared that violence would be used against her.

The two were granted bail.

I agree that this has nothing to do with being Catholic, it's more about being unable to control anger, isn't it ? Also consider that f this woman was protecting her son then surely we can all understand her strength of feeling even if we can not condone her violence. Sometimes people do things which they should not do, violence in the home is much more common than people realize often ignored by the police and classed as a domestic cases.

ok let`s have divorce, I am sure every family will be assured that arguments and problems in the families will be resolved overnight. You see divorce is the magic word and the solution to everything.

these kind of things happens also to countries where divorce is legal so I dont think it happened because we dont have the divorce here. Some people dont let things go. If you are not happy with your partner, one should go separate ways and live their lives. Some other people prefer living under the same roof even though they dont stand each other and then live their lives like this.

By all means I am not saying that I am against divorce.

Bring on the divorce, and why not, if a married couple are not happy anymore and living like brother and sister, so what is the point staying together for being a prisoner, life is to short.

It's exactly because we have stopped being Catholic Malta that incidents like this happen. Our conversion from Christianity to materialism produces such behaviour. I mean true Christianity not nominal. I cannot see the point or the logic in accusing the Church for situations like these

I do not think giving these people another chance by adopting divorce solves the problem. If there is no capacity for love in one union probably there wouldn't be in another, meaning that the parts are not prepared for marriage. I would allow for separation but not risk that society be burdened with another such union.

And what a banal argument it is that if divorce is allowed these things will stop happening! I invite D. Fenech to have a look at the British papers or of any other country where divorce has been existing for centuries to see that even in these countries incidents of this type and worse do happen, and even on a much larger scale, so that he may realize that it is not a question of allowing divorce or not but of whether those who contract matrimony are capable of love or not (not simply capabilty of haviing sex).

How sweet! What melodic harmony!
Thank God we are in Catholic Malta!

Family values?
Family strengthening?
No divorce in the country?
Protection of the family?

And we think that these are isolated cases in the country? You're kidding! We have families rife with internal violence - and yet, the Church says this and that. And let's put everything under the carpet.
