The 200-member Voices choir will be back this year with the Tell Me Why concert to be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on October 1-5 and 9-13.
Tell Me Why refers to the questions we often ask ourselves about the plight of youth. Why the poverty? Why the social problems? Why the illiteracy facing our youngsters?
To date, Voices has distributed €1 million in cash to beneficiaries through the biennial fund-raising event.
The choir started in 1991 as a modest group of students from St Aloysius College who loved to sing and wanted to "give something back" to the community. Most of the founding members are still actively involved in the organisation of the event with the exception of the late Louis Naudi, who passed away in 2004.
Emerging new talent is given a chance, with soloists performing songs backed by the choir.
"The magic which is Voices is hard to describe to someone who has never been to one of our concerts," Voices Foundation chairman Antonello Gauci said. "The live band and choir provide an unforgettable show while the audience is encouraged to get up and dance in the aisles.
"The fact that all this is done voluntarily with all proceeds from ticket sales going directly to charity gives an added dimension to what Voices is all about."
This year, half the proceeds will be going to an educational centre at San Blas, the drug rehabilitation centre run by Caritas. This project was chosen after several proposals from various charities were evaluated by the Voices Foundation.
The concert is sponsored by the Vodafone Malta Foundation as the title sponsor, in collaboration with other sponsors.
