Chircop still in critical condition
The health authorities yesterday expressed concern over the condition of Labour health spokesman Karl Chircop. In a statement, the Health Division said Dr Chircop was still in hospital in a critical condition.
The Labour MP was rushed to hospital on Sunday evening after he suffered a stroke.
The family doctor, who turns 43 today, was still in intensive care yesterday. Medical tests were being carried out on Tuesday to determine his state of health.
The division said Dr Chircop's family thanked everyone for their support and asked for its privacy to be respected.

Karl is a chip of the old block. His father, my cousin, was Dr. Charles Chircop who died suddenly at the age of 43 when Karl was 16 years old. Charles was a great gentleman, much beloved by all his family and friends. His sudden death rocked and shocked the whole family. It was an immense blow to his wife Marion and her children, Mariza, Karl and Tatyana who was just 12. I vividly remember that dreadful day and those that followed how difficult it was to cope with life. And now, wonders of wonders on Karl's 43rd year Nature decides again to hit us another devastating blow. Smiling, gentle and kind hearted Karl is in deep sleep.
My beloved cousin Karl is to me, a son, a brother and a dearest friend. I, like the rest of the family feel safe because of him.
The family is deeply moved by the shower of support and prayers coming from over our Malta. And I assure you miracles are happening. Please continue to pray for Karl.
To Karl's Guardian Angel I implore with all humility to send Karl back to us who need and miss him so very much.

Like all the people who have been lucky enough to know Karl I was shocked with the news of his condition. I met Karl a few years ago through football contacts and he was also a guest on my programe Kick Off talking about his passion for Liverpool. A true gentleman and supporter his passion for Liverpool and what they stand for was an example to anyone who calls himself a fan. Karl you will never walk alone and we are all praying for you and your family during these difficult times.

Wishing somebody a happy birthday when he happens to be in a critical health condition might sound in bad taste. But I am sure that my friend and colleague Karl Chircop knows that I am doing so out of deep sympathy, solidarity and respect for him - particularly when he has just turned 43 years young to-day! Manchester Utd and Liverpool fans normally hate each others' guts. In my case inspite of my being a Man Utd supporter I admire Karl's guts in soldiering on in full defiance of the major health setback he experienced Sunday last. If only we can have more opportunities to snipe at each other again - as in the past - in a friendly way whenever the Old Trafford and Anfield boys occassionally come a cropper! Some other bloggers have said it already but I have no qualms about echoing their sentiments - You will never walk alone, Karl!
