It is a very sad period for the Malta Labour Party. The much promised changes that should have materialised with the famous earthquake were nothing more than cheap propaganda.

The re-election of Jason Micallef clearly confirms this.

Once again the delegates have made the wrong decision. For another five years the Malta Labour Party will have as general secretary a person who is not fit for the job, who lacks managerial skills and political acumen.

The delegates through their irresponsible vote have split the party. Certainly, Mr Micallef is not a unifying figure; on the contrary, through his actions he continues to divide the party.

Joseph Muscat's new political season must have collapsed as did the city of Babylon at the playing of the trumpets.

Through this decision the Malta Labour Party will continue to be divided on two fronts; those on the inside and those on the outside.

A real shame that the decision of a few hundred outdid what the majority of Labourites wanted.

Such decisions inevitably will lead the Malta Labour Party to self-destruction.
