Chircop's condition remains 'very serious'

The Health Division said today that the medical condition of Labour MP Karl Chircop remained very serious and a cause for concern.

It said the family thanked all those who had expressed solidarity with it. It renewed its call for privacy to be respected.

Dr Chircop was hospitalised late on Sunday after suffering cerebral haemorrhage.

Aw Siehbi, I'm listening to a remix of Rings of Fire and my mind is off to that night in Istanbul we experienced together. A night I will never forget, but a night that today takes on an even more special meaning because we lived and experienced it together. Remember half-time - when we had our heads down and then 45,000 started singing YNWA even though we just could not believe. But yes we pulled it off and we sang, danced and hugged each other. Ftakar siehbi, you're at your half-time. Keep strong and believe that miracles do happen. Remember that night in Istanbul and I'm sure you'll pull out of this. I wish I were next to you biex insemmahhielek. I can hardly see what I'm writing because I can't stop tears coming to my eyes, but somehow I believe we'll go again to watch our beloved Liverpool on the Kop. It's a long second half you've got ahead of you but you'll win your battle because you know that You'll Never Walk Alone. Jekk Alla jrid, narak ma ndumx siehbi. John.

Karl is a chip of the old block. His father, my cousin, was Dr. Charles Chircop who died suddenly at the age of 43 when Karl was 16 years old. Charles was a great gentleman, much beloved by all his family and friends. His sudden death rocked and shocked the whole family. It was an immense blow to his wife Marion and her children, Mariza, Karl and Tatyana who was just 12. I vividly remember that dreadful day and those that followed how difficult it was to cope with life. And now, wonders of wonders on Karl's 43rd year Nature decides again to hit us another devastating blow. Smiling, gentle and kind hearted Karl is in deep sleep.
My beloved cousin Karl is to me, a son, a brother and a dearest friend. I, like the rest of the family feel safe because of him.
The family is deeply moved by the shower of support and prayers coming from over our Malta. And I assure you miracles are happening. Please continue to pray for Karl.
To Karl's Guardian Angel I implore with all humility to send Karl back to us who need and miss him so very much.

My family continues to pray for Karl and his family in this moment of suffering and hope. I vividly recall his expression as a regular statue bearer during Good Friday's procession in Paola.

So shocked to hear about Karl Chircop's fate. I know him to be a fine politician and a gentleman. Throughout the years I was involved in local media, he never regarded me as a political adversary knowing I worked for Nationalist media. He respected my profession. He was approachable and probably the most moderate of all the Opposition bench. Who knows him in Parliament, could vouch for his preparedness and most of all for his calm and dignified methods of criticism. A fine politician. Over time I got to know him well, and also had the chance of playing football together. Karl Chircop is a strong character, a family man, and with so much more to give to his party and the country. The whole nation waits impatiently for a miraculous recovery. Fight on Karl.

At this moment in time we should pray for Karl Chircop so that he can recuperate at the earliest possible. Despite being a politician from his opponent party, I know Karl as a gentleman, both inside and outside politics. We need more politicians like Karl in our country and I really wish him a speedy recovery. May God be with you Karl!

Having known Karl's parents since before they got married and known Karl as a young boy at Sta Lucia where we lived very close to each other, I cannot but express my disbelief. Throughout the years we have had nothing but good words for each other whenever we met. All that can be said of Karl has been said already. At this point in time we can only offer our solidarity with the family and also our prayers for a miracle to happen. We need people like Karl who is not only a true gentleman and an excellent doctor but is also an example of how politicians should be. God be with you Karl!
