A 46-year-old man was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to stealing a car stereo and causing less than €1,164.69 in damage to a car on Sunday evening.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona heard how Louis Cassar of Birżebbuġa allegedly stole a stereo worth €232.94 from a Fiat Punto parked in Salvatore Cachia Zammit Street, Birżebbuġa.

Mr Cassar also pleaded not guilty to damaging the same car, handling stolen property and relapsing.

Before remanding Mr Cassar in custody, Magistrate Micallef Trigona took into consideration his criminal record which goes back 20 years. Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.

Lawyers Michael Scriha and Marion Camilleri appeared for Mr Cassar.
