The figures reported in the article on radio are taken from Table 3.4 page 7 of the report which can be downloaded from the Broadcasting Authority's website. From that table, Calypso Radio ranked third with 11.6% from 10.3% the previous quarter while RTK ranked fourth at 8.1% - 8.6% the previous quarter. These are only the percentages of number of viewers/listeners who logged on to each radio station. The amount of time consumers spend listening effects the final ratings which can be found in Table 4.3 for Radio and Table 5.3 for TV. In this case, Calypso Radio ranked 2nd with 13.8% since, on average, Calypso Radio listeners spend 4.37 hours - Table 6.1

TVM surely deserves to lead the ratings. Lately they improved drastically, most of all the news content. They're more fresh, investigative and innovative in producing the main news bullettin. Hope they'll keep this momentum.

It may sound subjective, but I am of the opinion that with increased penetration of Cable/Satellite TV less people are likely to follow Italian and Maltese Channels, and more will enjoy the aboundance of English and American ones. Are there any socio-economic factors behind such preferences? Has this been exposed in the survey results at all?

What is interesting is that despite the availability of more channels through both Digital Terrestrial and Cable, the Mediaset trio still remain the most popular foreign stations. This can only be a positive sign since Italian TV is what made most of us tri-lingual from a very early age.

In an English speaking country like ours I find it hard to see how English language channels such as MTV, BBC PRIME, BBC NEWS, COMMEDY CHANNEL, Discovery, National Geographic, and the likes are virtually absent from such survey results...I am inclined to believe that with higher education levels, greater penetration of Cable and Digital TV Channels, (mainly) Maltese language channels may experience a decline in viewership. I wonder what people out there think about this point...? Maybe the BA Survey as a whole goes deeper on this aspect. I can’t say as I haven’t read it. I look forward to reading it!
