A court heard yesterday how a drunken 59-year-old man went home to retrieve his shotgun after being involved in a fight at a bar in San Ġwann.
Magistrate Anthony Vella heard Anthony Colombo of St Julians admit to the charge of threatening Carmel Calleja and Marika Galea with a firearm. Police Inspector Martin Sammut told the court that after an argument broke out at the bar in Mensija Street on Sunday afternoon, Mr Colombo went home to fetch his shotgun.
When his daughter saw him taking the gun she called a relative who was at the bar and who subsequently stopped Mr Colombo from bringing the gun into the bar.
Inspector Sammut added that at no point was the gun taken out of Mr Colombo's car.
Magistrate Vella jailed Mr Colombo for three months suspended for 18 months and confiscated the firearm.
Lawyers Josè Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for Mr Colombo.
