Maltese driver Noel Baldacchino finished third in the Mediterranean International Trotting Cham-pionship, held recently at the Cagnes Sur Mer racecourse in Nice.

Leading drivers from France, Italy, Algeria, Croatia, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine competed in this prestigious event.

After an unconvincing start, Baldacchino, Malta's 2007 driver of the year, managed to guide his horse, Omium Oldeson, to the leading positions on way to placing third. Favourite horse Orebro, under the charge of French driver Jean Paul Fasquelleu, was first ahead of Orion du Vaumicel, driven by the world-renowned female driver Olga Bondar, of Ukraine.

Malta Racing Club general secretary Tony De Bono accompanied Baldacchino in Nice.
