I have been following the correspondence about Maltese identity.

Some Maltese living in Malta find it difficult to precisely define their Maltese identity and also fear that the Maltese identity is being threatened or 'diluted' by frequent and increasing contacts with neighbouring and distant countries because of business and social requirements. One can imagine how much more difficult it would be for emigrants to define and maintain their Maltese identity.

I had read that a Master's in Maltese Studies is being offered by the University. I was hoping that this course of studies would be offered online but, alas, it is not. I would strongly urge the Maltese government and the University to collaborate and make available an online course in Maltese Studies, perhaps a BA. I am sure that it would be welcomed by the thousands of Maltese emigrants and their children.

Were such a course to be made available, it would certainly help us Maltese abroad (and our children) to learn more about Malta and help us maintain our identity.
