Superyacht service providers and Mediterranean marina operators Melita Marine Group, have announced the appointment of 17 heads for its subsidiary companies.

Pierre Balzan is general shareholder and chairman of each company of the group. The group recently embarked on a restructuring exercise to reorganise its operations and consolidate business in Malta and across its Mediterranean network in preparation for long-term growth and new acquisitions in the yachting industry.

Founded in 1989, the Melita Marine group of companies offers a wide range of marine services, from yacht refits, marina management, fuel supplies, yacht/charter brokerage and supplies of all kinds to the superyacht industry.

Its strategically placed offices around the Mediterranean coast (Italy, Sicily, France, Tunisia, and Croatia) and developments in Spain, Sardinia, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt and Gibraltar, enable the group to cater for all captains' and owners' needs in major Mediterranean yachting zones.

Melita Marine is the operator of the Manoel Island marina with facilities for berthing of yachts from eight to 150 metres. The marina boasts 120 berths on pontoons, 54 berths for superyachts over 24 metres long, one alongside berth for an 80- to 150-metre superyacht and hard-standing facilities for yachts of up to 20 tons and slots for up to 60 yachts.

The group is also sole distributor for some of the most prestigious names in the manufacturing of luxury yachts, like Ferretti, Pershing, Riva, Mochi and Sessa.

"Over the past 10 years the number of superyachts has increased by 80 per cent worldwide and is expected to almost triple within two years," Mr Balzan said. "This goes to show that the yachting industry, which generates big business and is good news for Malta as for the rest of the Mediterranean, is still in development.

"With a skilled workforce personnel of over 100 in specialised fields, and a regional network to support any superyacht, irrespective of its size and location, and with a turnover of millions of euros, Melita Marine is in growth mode to expand with the industry and maximise potential."
