Malta has won the right to stage the 2008 Mosconi Cup.

The popular annual nine-ball pool tournament, which is contested by teams representing Europe and the United States, will be played at the Hilton Malta Conference Centre in St Julian's between December 11 and 14.

Details about the 2008 Mosconi Cup will be given by organisers Snooker Promotions and Matchroom Sport at a news conference scheduled for today week at the Hilton Malta.

The Mosconi Cup generated a lot of interest among Maltese fans last year following the exploits of Tony Drago who inspired the European team to a thrilling 11-8 win over the United States in Las Vegas.

Since the first edition in 1994, the Mosconi Cup has featured some of the most famous players in the sport, including Earl Strickland, Johnny Archer, Jimmy White, Alex Higgins, and Steve Davis.
