Who said that the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are only 28. We already have well over 10,000 here in Malta.

Agreement with Libya in October. Now we can rest assured that this invasion will come to a halt. That 's Gaddafi's promise, but can he be trusted? Have you heard his speeches on Youtube, preaching to his followers how he intends to spread the Muslim faith all over Europe?

Do immigrants legal status has any thing to do with Fertility? If so, enlighten me how please.
@L galea
How do you know that each irregular immigrants cost Euros 30 per day, and most importantly why do you conclude this is taking from tax-payers money?

No sooner hugs and kisses are over than over 200 immigrants sail calmly from our good neighbours, Libya. I prefer Dr.Gonzi to switch from MEPA to the crisis of illegal immigrants. Surely we all agree that it should take priority over everything. Or shall we delegate Dr.Gatt who had proved that he has b**** when dealing with the transport problem. Or we can hope for a miracle to happen from EU, or Libya, or some saintly figure. Even better wait for theUS and other heart in hand European friends to take a dozen or so. Perhaps it would be easier to pray for winter to approach and hope that summer never comes.
Can you pour all the seawater into a bucket? Simply impossible but that is what we are trying to do. What's worse is that both parties are commiting political suicide as they both look spineless and are losing credibility at an astonishly fast pace. This is evident from the numerous comments expressing a sense of alarm and worryness inspite of the fact that some of the media seem to have some hidden agenda. So wake up and act now-not tomorrow. Well done Robert Arrigo - you have guts.

@ V Vella:
They´re only 28 for the moment. Unfortunately for Maltese taxpayers, who did nothing illegal but be part of the EU and have sleeping authorities, the tendency among these illegal immigrants is that they reproduce faster than rabbits.

This has got to stop
We need an Enoch Powell type politician to stand up and put forward the views of a lot of people to the Government that doesn't seem to be listening
..and why are our over-paid MEPs so bloody quiet on the issue??

And we've had it in the news that agreement with Libya may be reached in October.
Nice timing to coincide with the 'end-of-season' of the ILLEGAL immigrants!
Who is Gaddafi kidding?
No wonder we are in such a dire situation if our politicians are so gullible.
28 ILLEGAL immigrants at 30 euros each daily for 365 days = 306,600 euros from our taxes
This is apart from the "pocket money" they are given.
Consider the thousands of ILLEGAL immigrants that are being kept in Malta and work out how much they are costing us, poor taxpayers, from our taxes which are leavign us breathless.

The problem is that we have some fools who do not recognise the problem as being a problem.

From today´s print edition of The Economist, "On July 25th Italy declared a national state of emergency in response to a sharp rise in the number of landings on Lampedusa."
In the meantime, the authorities in Malta still think that Malta is bigger than Australia and can swallow in anything that comes its way, perhaps the entire EU too, should it be necessary.
What are they waiting for? The EU or Frontex to save the day as the knight in shining armour? (in your dreams). For the entire country to become completely out of control?
The situation has reached alarming dimensions and it´s time to take difficult and tough but necessary actions and start sending back these people immediately.

Gonzi told us that illegal immigration is a European problem. In Europe that has become a joke. Whenever a politician cannot solve a problem he says it is a European problem. Gonzi has repeated the joke - except that he said it with a serious face and expects to be taken seriously. Gonzi, when will you wake up to reality? Was it not you who said "this is an invasion"?

Another 28 mouths to feed, cloth , and mantain. how many morw can we take, isn't it time to repatriate those who are not considered eligable for humanitarian assitance, or refugees.A Tunisian friend of mine iving and working hard in his country as a hotel receptionist makes approx 700 euros a month, his is a well paid job in his country, now we all know that these people earn much less for any manual work they carry out in thier country, so how do they afford the trip? or is it subsidised by a rebel president with the aim of flooding Europe.?
