A man was yesterday jailed for 18 months after a magistrate found him guilty of breaching a three-year probations order handed down in May 2007 for theft.

Stephen Nappa, 27, from Valletta, had been placed on probation for three years after having been found guilty of stealing a stereo and a mobile phone from a car in Ħamrun on February 15, 2006.

Mr Nappa's probation officer testified before Magistrate Giovanni Grixti that the accused had failed to keep in contact with him, thus breaching his probation order.

Police Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.
