For the benefit of readers, the FACE Med conference held in mid-July brought together representatives from all EU Mediterranean countries to discuss their common hunting heritage.

Representatives of the hunting organisations of Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Malta, who together represent three-and-a-half million hunters, met for a two-day conference in Malta.

FACE is the body recognised within the EU as the authority on hunting matters.

The difference in cultures and hunting practices between northern and southern European countries has prompted the need for FACE Med to be launched. This ensures a more specific management of hunting matters within the Mediterranean area.

The conference was attended by officials from the office of the Prime Minister, the opposition, MEPs and the Ornis committee who each contributed in a very constructive manner and recognised the importance of Malta's participation in FACE Med.

Never failing to report, with ample coverage, any instance of illegal hunting, any initiative taken by Birdlife, Raptor and spring watch camps, it is nothing short of shameful that The Times decided not to report a conference which aims to coordinate Malta's hunting association's efforts to gain recognition and credibility within the European hunting community.

This bias in reporting is what contributes to the tarnishing of Malta's credibility. It is far from the purported balance professed by this newspaper.

Editorial note: At times, due to the number of coverages, newsroom must prioritise. However, The Times apologises for failing to cover the FACE Med event.
