Football - AC Milan will not revive a bid for former striker Andriy Shevchenko despite forward Marco Borriello being ruled out for the next two months, coach Carlo Ancelotti said.
Milan are travelling to Moscow for a pre-season tournament also involving Shevchenko's Chelsea.
"Borriello has a problem which will get better quickly, therefore we must wait for him. Shevchenko will play this season at Chelsea," Ancellotti told reporters.
Soccer - Austria defender Paul Scharner has signed a two-year contract extension with Wigan Athletic, the Premier League club said on their website (www.wiganlatics.co.uk).
The 28-year-old had 12 months remaining on his previous contract but has now agreed a new deal with the club he joined in 2006 from Norwegian side Brann. "I feel the club has another opportunity to really progress this season and I want to be a part of that," he told the website.
Cycling - Italy's Riccardo Ricco, who has admitted doping at the Tour de France, has been given an open-ended suspension pending a full decision on the length of his ban, the Italian Olympic Committee said in a statement.
Cycling - Italian Leonardo Piepoli, sacked by the Saunier Duval team during the Tour de France, has said he was only seen as a witness at a hearing with Italy's anti-doping prosecutor on Thursday.
Piepoli was sacked at the same time as team mate Ricco. Piepoli did not fail a drugs test at the Tour but was fired because team bosses said he gave unsatisfactory answers when questioned about doping.
"I have been talked to only as a witness," he told reporters as he left the prosecutor's office. "I have said what I had to say, nothing more, nothing less."
