A number of projects and initiatives funded by the EU are expected to be approved in the coming weeks, the government said.

Thirty-three projects have already been approved and will be carried out under the 2007 - 2013 budget through which Malta is entitled to €855 million. These projects include the building of arterial roads, new facilities in schools, the Malta College for Art, Science and Technology, the University and the Junior College, enhancing the facilities of the Employment and Training Corporation, projects in tourist zones, restoration of fortifications, and, in Gozo, a project for the General Hospital, Villa Rundle and Wied il-Mielaħ. Malta has already implemented over 80 projects through the funds for 2004 to 2006.

The government gave the details in reaction to comments by Opposition Leader Charles Mangion who accused the government of incompetence when dealing with EU funds, saying the government had only managed to secure €12 million in the first six months of this year.
