Bristol City call off Mifsud deal

Michael Mifsud's proposed move to Bristol City collapsed last night after manager Gary Johnson announced that negotiations with the Malta forward had ended unsuccessfully.

Last week, Bristol City reached an agreement with Coventry to pay £1.5 million for the former Lillestroem striker who was expected to seal his move early this week after agreeing terms over the weekend.

However, Johnson pulled out of the deal as he thought that Mifsud was not the right player for his club.

"I can't commit £1.5 million of the club's money to people that I don't think can be committed to the club," Johnson told the club's website.

"When I talk to people you get to know their weaknesses. Although they might be good players, if they aren't the right personality for me they will let you down in the end.

"Mifsud, his representative and lawyer took negotiations to a level that I have never been before in the way they were conducting business.

"In my opinion it wasn't very professional and certainly not respectful of this football club."
