Victoria bastions to be rehabilitated
The bastions that form the citadel in Gozo are to be extensively restored in a project partly funded by the European Union, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono and Resources Minister George Pullicino said today.
The rehabilitation will form part of a €36 million programme for the rehabilitation of bastions in Malta and Gozo over several years.
Mrs Debono said this would be the biggest restoration project of its kind on the Victoria bastions.
Mr Pullicino said the government also intends to set up a Fortifications Interpretation Centre to better explain the fortifications.

Better late then never!! What i really look forward to is that money goes well spent, all work is carried out diligently, and that this is just the beginning of a whole project in facelifting the whole of Cittadella as it is simply in a derelict state. As usual, such a place with a tremendous history and potential lost. Looking forward, and hope that it does not take much long!!

At long last. I hope that this would be something more serious than the restoration farce which has been evidenced in these last years. Restoration should cover the whole of the fortified citty. Not only the fortifications themselves (which in parts are in dire need of restoration) but also the houses inside the bastions which are a wealth of Maltese history and medival construction. Ruins should be treated with the necessary dedication since these might contain various historical findings. Let's keep fingures crossed.
