Simshar crewman's funeral held

The funeral of Noel Carabott, one of the victims of the Simshar fishing boat tragedy, was held this afternoon Marsaxlokk.

The Acting President, George Hyzler,headed a large congregation at Marsaxlokk Church.

Mr Carabott's wife, Stephania entered the church behind the coffin, carrying red roses.

The congregation included many fishermen as well as Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and MPs from both sides of the House.

The concelebrated Mass was led by Mgr Victor Grech who spoke glowingly of Mr Carabott.

"Noel had a kind, sincere and generous heart, you couldn't meet him and not love him," Mgr Grech said.

The congregation applauded as the casket was carried out of the church at the end of the Mass.

Mr Carabott's was the first funeral to be held for the Simshar victims. Karmenu Bugeja's funeral will be held tomorrow in the same church while that of Somali crewman Abdulrahman Abdalla Gedi will take place at the Mosque in Paola on Friday.
