AFM hold five men over drug possession

Soldiers detained five men for allegedly being in possession of drugs at checkpoints set up in the centre and south of the island on Sunday night, the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) said yesterday.

A 24-year-old man was allegedly found to be carrying four sachets of cocaine and six ecstasy pills, the AFM said.

Another four men, aged between 20 and 25, were detained for allegedly being in possession of cocaine. The AFM said two of them had cannabis joints.

Another man was allegedly found to be driving without a vehicle licence and insurance cover.

The individuals were handed over to the police.

The checkpoints were manned by the 1st Regiment's C Company.
