Former European champions Aston Villa and 1989 UEFA Cup winners Napoli are among the 11 clubs to have moved through to the second qualifying round of the competition from the last Intertoto Cup.

The summer competition concluded last weekend after three rounds of matches, and Saturday victors Villa, Napoli, Stade Rennes, Deportivo, Braga, Vaslui, Sturm Graz and Grasshoppers were joined on Sunday by Stuttgart, Elfsborg and the first-ever Norwegian side to triumph, Rosenborg.

Stuttgart became the only team to qualify for the UEFA Cup from the Intertoto Cup three times since the first such competition in 1995; Villa and Grasshoppers joined Villarreal, Schalke, Marseille, Lens and Hamburg on the list of those to succeed twice in the tournament, which is now being discontinued in favour of expanded entry to UEFA Cup qualifying from 2009/10.

All 11 Intertoto Cup winners will join the 16 automatic entrants and 37 eventual first qualifying round winners in Friday's draw in Nyon.

The Intertoto Cup winners that progress furthest in the UEFA Cup will be presented with a trophy, following in the footsteps of Newcastle in 2006 and Hamburg last season, who both reached the last 16.
