Two men admit to theft

Two 25-year-old men were each put on probation for three years when they admitted to stealing various objects from a residential complex in Swieqi on Saturday.

Jonathan-Joseph Briffa, of Ta' Xbiex, and Rueben D'Amato, of Gżira, pleaded guilty to stealing several items including a mobile phone, two digital cameras, an MP3 player and other items from a room at the Garden View Complex at about 5 p.m. Mr Briffa alone also admitted to relapsing.

Magistrate Edwina Grima heard how most of the stolen items were returned to their owners and that the two men had a drug problem and needed help to overcome it. She, therefore, placed them on probation for three years.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted. Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared for the men.
