Charged with failing to declare cash
A 69-year-old Italian was yesterday charged with failing to inform the authorities that he was in the possession of over €10,000 as he was about to leave the island.
Carlo Grimaldi pleaded not guilty to failing to declare the amount of money at the airport when he was about to leave on Sunday.
He was granted bail against a €4,500 deposit and a personal guarantee of €7,000.
Police Inspector Angelo Gafà prosecuted. Lawyer Stefano Filletti appeared for Mr Grimaldi.

At Luton airport there is a board, just before one go through customs that says, that if you are carrying over 10000 euros, and you are from outside the EU, you have to declare it.
Another case of bending EU rules by the sound of it. We are only EU members where it suits.

I thought that now as we are EU members and have no border control between European countries there was no need to declare anymore. I have never been asked if i had anything to declare traveling in Europe! What exactly are the rules supposed to be? Or are we making them up as we go along to ensure that every one cent is taxed, even fellow Europeans money?
