I am also a resident of Malta, although English not Maltese, and I strongly object to the sanctimonious letter by Elizabeth A. Micallef (July 24).

Perhaps, she doesn't get out much, otherwise she would witness indecent behaviour by Maltese people as well as other nationalities. I used to live along Tigné seafront and have personally witnessed a Maltese diver remove his wet suit in broad daylight to change into his shorts and all this without the aid of a towel! I have also seen Maltese men sitting on their front doorsteps dressed only in underpants (we don't do this in England due to the cold). I have seen both young Maltese ladies in bikinis and bare chested Maltese men walk along the Tower Road promenade.

I think it is, therefore, unfair that her letter implies that only non Maltese do this.

It is not tourist police that are required but polite notices displayed in public places asking people to cover up when coming from the beach, for both tourists and Maltese.
