Bristol City manager still hopeful of signing Mifsud

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson is hopeful of completing the signing of Michael Mifsud early this week after talks between the player and the English club continued yesterday.

Last week, Bristol City agreed a 1.5 million pounds fee with Coventry City for the Malta international forward and Johnson was expecting to finalise a deal in time to field Mifsud in yesterday's friendly against Bournemouth. However, an agreement has yet to be reached as it has been reported that Mifsud is holding out for better terms.

The Bristol City manager revealed that his pursuit of the Coventry striker were still ongoing and wants to wrap up the move in the coming days.

"Things are still ongoing and lots of things happen during potential transfers," Johnson told reporters after Bristol City's 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Dele Adebola, a former strike partner of Mifsud at Coventry, scored City's winner.

"It's not done yet but we are still negotiating. Some people jump the gun a bit when they hear about it, but everything has to be right when a player joins us.

"The deal has got to be right for us and it's got to be right for them. Sometimes that takes a little time. I suspect we'll know in the coming days."
