I express my immense gratitude to our merciful God as well as to the six brave and generous men who, on July 3, were ordained priests by Archbishop Paul Cremona at St John's Co-Cathedral. Such an event does not usually make the headlines, but in reality it is probably the greatest piece of good news that has happened to the Maltese so far this year.

In spite of our sins, negligence and indifference, God has blessed us once more with six new ministers so that they will carry on among us, His sons and daughters, His work of salvation and sanctification through the holy sacraments, Holy Mass and the proclamation of the Good News.

Where would we be without our priests? Our world would indeed be a spiritual desert where our souls would find very little nourishment - no Holy Mass to open God's floods of mercy and forgiveness on us, no Sacraments, the channels of abundant Divine grace to our languishing souls, no real Presence in the tabernacle to gladden our hearts and to accompany and strengthen us in our daily struggles and trials.
