Protecting Attard

I was relieved to learn that Villa Bologna has been scheduled as a Grade 1 national monument. Considering the building boom and the general frenzy to cover every bit of space with bricks and concrete, we hardly have one modern building of significant architectural value. We should at least preserve our heritage.

Attard was once a peaceful and quaint village with beautiful houses, villas and large gardens. Today even its last remaining open spaces are being threatened. Over-development is making it noisy, polluted and overcrowded.

Mepa should consider the general health and well-being of Attard residents when it considers the Ta' Fgieni area. After all, daylight and clean air are indispensable to life, as are recreational spaces. These are basic human rights which should by far outweigh financial interests.
