I refer to Mark Micallef's article about the turnaround by Mepa of the permit close to Belvedere in Lija (The Sunday Times, July 20).
The developers' architect Robert Musumeci is now telling us that his client will be seeking compensation. What cheek!
Mr Musumeci is a Nationalist Party mayor whose party is in government. Why didn't he encourage his client to do go ahead with this project in his constituency, say in Siggiewi square? Would he be elected mayor if he did so?
It was alright for him to encourage his client to apply for a permit in another area not affecting him personally. If Mr Musumeci seeks compensation for his client, he should get it from the members of Mepa, who decided to approve the permit. All the permits issued the last year before the election should be investigated seriously, and action should be taken immediately with no compensation at all.
Compensation comes from our taxes, from the pockets of those who have to pay 95 per cent surcharge on utilities. Why do we have to pay for mistakes by Mepa and for bad advice from architects?
The government should look after our money and not give hand-outs to developers and the hearse owners.
