Mifsud holding out for better terms

Striker Michael Mifsud is taking time to decide on his transfer to Championship club Bristol City as reports in the UK yesterday said that the Malta international is holding out for better terms.

Earlier this week, Coventry City accepted an offer, reported to be in the region of £1.5 million, for Mifsud who still has one year left on his contract at the Ricoh Arena.

Mifsud passed a medical but it seems the transfer hit a snag during talks with Bristol City manager Gary Johnson. The Bristol Evening Post said that Mifsud returned to the Midlands to consider a take-it-or-leave-it offer.

"Mifsud is holding out for better terms than he has been offered," the Evening Post said, "but City are not prepared to budge.

"With two weeks remaining before the start of the Championship campaign, Johnson cannot afford to wait indefinitely and is pressing Mifsud and his representatives for a speedy response."

Bristol City's Championship rivals Norwich and Crystal Palace have also shown interest in Mifsud but did not make a bid for Coventry's top scorer last season.

Meanwhile, Bristol City were expected to test Mifsud's fitness in a friendly this afternoon. They play Bournemouth at the Fitness First Stadium.

The Championship in England starts on August 9.
