Malta FA annual general meeting today
Members and delegates from clubs and organisations affiliated to the Malta FA will meet for an annual general meeting at the Centenary Hall in Ta' Qali, this morning.
The run-up to this year's AGM has been by far less hectic than 2007 when Dr Joe Mifsud was challenged by former MFA treasurer Norman Darmanin Demajo for the president's seat.
After weeks of intense campaigning, it was Dr Mifsud who successfully retained his post for a three-year term when he won a tight vote 52-49.
In other elections last year, Carmelo Bartolo, Ludovico Micallef and Peter Fenech were elected as vice-presidents while Alex Manfre was confirmed as treasurer.
This year, the only elections scheduled are those for 11 members to fill the ordinary seats on the Executive Committee.
Jesmond Abela, Redeno Apap, Joseph Gauci and John Vella are in the running for the two available spots from Premier League clubs while Charles Scerri and Salvu Vella are vying for the spot from Division Two.
The two vacancies for council members in representation of member clubs are contested by Redeno Apap, Joseph Gauci, Raymond Micallef, Bjorn Vassallo, John Vella and Salvu Vella.
Charles Caruana and Joseph Sammut are expected to be named as Division One represenatitives and Joseph Farrugia will take the spot reserved for Division Three. They are uncontested for their seats.
Also, no election is needed to name the Youth FA council member in the executive committee as Joe Micallef is uncontested.
The same applies for the two representatives of the other member associations. These seats will be filled by Charles Calleja and Joe Cassar Naudi.
The AGM, which starts at 9.30 a.m., will be chaired by Dr Mifsud.
Among the main items on the agenda are the approval of the minutes of last year's meeting and those of the extraordinary general meeting in March, the report of activities of the association and the audited accounts and balance sheet of the MFA for 2007/08.
