Obituary

BONELLO. On July 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, Canon JOSEPH BONELLO of Cospicua, spiritual director of the St George Philharmonic Society, Cospicua, aged 80, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his cousins May and her husband John Pace, Josette and her husband Dr Joe Bonello, Glorianne and her husband Dr Valerio Vella Catalano, and Lily Tabone, their respective families, the Clergy of the Immaculate Conception parish church, Cospicua, Franciscan Sisters, members of the Legion of Mary, and the Kultura Marjana Group, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception parish church, Cospicua, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. After Mass, the St George Philharmonic Society accompanies the funeral through the streets of Cospicua. Interment takes place at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery in the clergy grave. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MICALLEF. On July 23, in London, Dr ALPHONSE MICALLEF, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Lala, his daughters Patricia, Diana and Alexandra, his grandchildren, his sisters Carmen Cassar Olivier, Marica and her husband Roger de Giorgio, Rosalie and Marie Mifsud, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral will take place in Malta. Arrangements will be announced at a later date. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Mosta celebrations

Activities in connection with the celebration of the feast of the Assumption, on August 15, start in Mosta on Wednesday.

Mosta is also marking the 400th anniversary as a parish.

The Nicolò Isouard Philharmonic Society will be performing in Mosta Square on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The main part of the bill will consist of L-Għanja Tal-Konvoj Ta' Santa Marija, a symphonic poem by Oliver Friggieri set to music by Emm Spagnol, and Tchaikowsky's Overture Solennelle 1812.

Il-Mosta - 400 Parroċċa, words by Manwel D. Schembri and music by Emm Spagnol, and Ġieni Ħsieb Li Stajt Kont Int penned by Clemente Zammit and music by Victor Zammit will feature in the programme.

Passport office

The passport and e-ID office will be transferred to Evans Building, using the door in Merchants Street, Valletta from August 4. The present office at 217, St Paul Street, Valletta will not be open on August 2 and the passport emergency service will not be available on August 1-3.

Paola roads closed

Pjazza De Paule, Triq Ninu Cremona, Triq It-Tramuntana, Triq L-Arkata, Triq Il-Ġdida, Triq Il-Palma, Triq Tarxien, Triq It-Tarzna, Triq Santa Monika, Triq San Ġużepp, Triq Ġużè D'amato, Triq Is-Sorijiet, Vjal Il-Knisja, Triq Il-Qalb Ta' Ġesu, Triq Il-Kalkara Tal-Ġir and Triq Bormla in Paola will be closed to traffic this evening, between 8 p.m. and midnight.

Tow zone

Triq Santa Liena, Triq Ġafar, Triq Camenzuli, Triq Patri Marjanu Vella, Triq Sant'Anġlu, Telgħet San Ġiljan, Il-Bajja Tal-Balluta and Triq Manwel Dimech will be turned into a tow zone between seven this evening and 12.30 a.m. tomorrow.

Gozo Channel chairman

Joseph Grech has been appointed chairman of the Gozo Channel Co. Mario Mizzi is the deputy chairman and Noel Borg Hedley, Joseph Borg, Michael Camilleri Kamsky, Victor Galea Pace, Gabriela Mallia, Rita Mifsud and Josepha Xuereb are directors.

Kiosks at Safi feast

Applications for the setting up of kiosks for the feast of St Paul are available at the Safi local council, between 8 a.m. and noon.

Completed applications, together with the required documents are to be submitted until noon of July 31. Late submissions will be accepted until August 18 on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on the amount of space remaining.

ATM at the Embassy Complex

Bank of Valletta has just installed an ATM at the Embassy Complex in Valletta equipped with the latest touch screen technology replacing the traditional screen tactile buttons.

The bank operates over 70 ATMs, with customers making an average of over half a million transactions every month, the bank said.

San Anton Gardens

San Anton Gardens, Attard will be closed to the public this afternoon from one due to an activity organised by Din L-Art Ħelwa.

Masters in Film Art Management

The Malta Council for Culture and the Arts said that a Masters in Film Art Management will be held at the Università La Sapienza, Rome.

The course is open to recent graduates and those with experience in the cinema and television industry.

Chemistry degree courses

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Malta will be launching two new three-year undergraduate courses, B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry and B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry with Materials, a chemistry degree which incorporates engineering.

The courses will be on offer from October, in addition to the existing syllabus.
