Hotel occupancy levels up 6%

Occupancy levels in hotels and other accommodation establishments went up by 6 percent in May compared to the same month last year , to stand at 63.9 percent, the NSO said today.

In May 2008 the total nights spent in collective accommodation establishments were recorded at 750,052, an increase of 13.3 per cent over the corresponding month in 2007. The average length of stay stood at 6.0 night.

On an annual basis, the net use of bed-places in Malta went up by 6.0 percentage points to 64.4 per cent. Year-on-year, the average length of stay increased by 0.3 nights to 6.2 nights. Nights spent by non-residents accounted for 97.5 percent of total guest-nights in Malta.

In Gozo and Comino, the overall supply of bed-places stood at 1,718 beds, an increase of 5.2 percent over the comparable month a year ago. The net use of bed-places in May was 54.1 percent, an increase of 8.0 percentage points over May 2007.

The average length of stay stood at 3.8 nights, an increase of 0.2 nights.
